EMILY DYKSTRA, DESIGNER
THE CHALLENGE
Design a concept that showed the passing of day to night without using a clock or hourglass.
To keep this design fresh, I used a silhouette of a tree as a starting point and then flipped it on its side. From there, some interesting shapes emerged. I remembered some of my favorite Japanese prints and how they used the sparest of forms to create a composition. I anchored the edges of the design with a simple sun and moon shape.
The design needed to scale well for a variety of assets including tshirts, posters, banner ads and web graphics.
